Litha Correspondences: Colours, Herbs, and Crystals for Midsummer Magic

The Sabbat of Litha, or the Summer Solstice, is a time when the sun stands at its peak. It’s the longest day of the year, brimming with warmth, light, and abundance. For witches and spiritual practitioners, Litha is a moment to honour vitality, celebrate growth, and align with the full bloom of the earth’s energy.

Working with magical correspondences—such as colours, herbs, and crystals—helps to deepen ritual practice and connect more fully with the essence of the Sabbat. These elements act as energetic anchors, amplifying your intentions and bringing seasonal meaning to your spellwork.

Here’s how I use Litha’s core correspondences in my midsummer rituals, along with suggestions for integrating them into your own practice.

The Element of Fire

At its heart, Litha is a fire festival. It celebrates the sun’s power, passion, and illumination. Fire represents transformation, strength, energy, and purpose.

If you’re building a ritual, fire should be at the centre—whether that’s an outdoor bonfire or a small candle on your altar. Lighting flame during your practice honours the sun and helps send your intentions into the universe with strength and clarity.

You can also enhance your practice with solar-charged oils and tools like the Litha Altar Oil, designed to channel summer energy into your spells and space.

Colour Correspondences for Litha

Colour is a powerful tool in magical work. For Litha, I focus on warm, bright colours that mirror the midsummer sun:

  • Gold – honours the sun, success, and divine energy

  • Red – symbolises passion, strength, and willpower

  • Orange – connects to joy, creativity, and vitality

Use these colours in altar cloths, ritual clothing, or spell candles. A Litha Ritual Candle Kit featuring these colours can make it easy to incorporate seasonal power into your celebrations.

Herbs and Plants for Litha

Litha is an ideal time to work with herbs, especially those associated with protection, healing, and the sun. Plants are at their fullest now, and many hold powerful energies for magic and intention-setting.

Here are a few of my go-to herbs for Litha:

  • Lavender – for peace, purification, and calming overstimulation

  • Rosemary – for protection, clarity, and mental focus

  • St John’s Wort – for blessing, solar energy, and uplifting the spirit

You can burn these herbs as incense, brew them into teas or infusions, or add them to spell jars and ritual blends. If harvesting yourself, do so with intention and gratitude.

Crystals for Solar Energy and Growth

Crystals that resonate with the sun’s light can help you channel its strength and warmth into your workings. I like to place these stones on my altar or hold them during meditation and spellwork.

Favourites include:

  • Citrine – brings joy, confidence, and abundance

  • Sunstone – enhances optimism, personal power, and vitality

  • Carnelian – supports creativity, courage, and motivation

Leave them in the sun to charge for an hour or two before your ritual, allowing them to soak up the solstice energy.

Using Correspondences in Your Rituals

You don’t need every item on the list—working with even one or two correspondences mindfully is enough to build a powerful ritual. Here are a few ideas to help you integrate them:

  • Dress a gold candle with rosemary and lavender to set an intention for growth and protection

  • Add citrine and sunstone to your altar as a focal point during solstice meditation

  • Burn St John’s Wort as part of a blessing spell or land offering

  • Use the Litha Altar Oil to anoint yourself, your tools, or your written intentions

  • Light a Litha ritual candle at dawn or dusk to honour the turning of the sun

Final Thoughts

Litha is a celebration of fullness—of the land, the self, and the magic that surrounds us. By incorporating the colours, herbs, and crystals that align with this Sabbat, you invite harmony between your spiritual practice and the living rhythm of the seasons.

Whether you’re honouring the sun with fire, tending herbs in your garden, or simply pausing in gratitude, these correspondences offer a beautiful and potent way to root your rituals in the energy of midsummer.
